A Step Towards Positive Work Culture: MUMYU

A Counter-Narrative for Women in India

According to a study by Ashoka University, 73% of Indian women quit their jobs after childbirth. MUMYU provides a powerful counter-narrative demonstrating that with the right support, women can thrive as caregivers, artisans, and contributors to the economy.

A Step Towards Positive Work Culture: MUMYU

MUMYU – Where Family and Financial Freedom Meet

At MUMYU, we believe financial independence for women should never come at the cost of their families, values, or traditions. Our journey began in 2019 with just a dream, a vision, and a small 7-member core team committed to reshaping the maternity and baby care industry.

Today, that dream has expanded into a network of 400**+ skilled MUMYU partners** women artisans engaged in sewing, stitching, and knitting. One of our core team members, Arti, collected data on more than 400 craftswomen from Himachal Pradesh, where hand skills like knitting, stitching, and embroidery are not just hobbies but part of everyday life. These women have long created hand-knit treasures out of love for their children, husbands, and families.

By connecting with them, sharing our vision, and offering them a platform, we enabled these women to transform their traditional skills into a source of sustainable income. What started with just one product has now grown into 57+ SKUs across four categories, expanding our reach through our website, Amazon, Flipkart, exclusive retail exhibitions, and pop-ups. This growth has not only amplified MUMYU’s presence but also empowered women artisans to earn fair remuneration, gain recognition, and showcase their crafts to a wider audience.

At MUMYU, work is more than just earning it is about dignity, flexibility, and empowerment. Our work culture is inspired by Gandhi’s Gram Swaraj philosophy, which emphasizes self-reliance, community well-being, and respect for traditional skills.

Most of our artisans are women from rural communities who balance childcare, joint family duties, cattle rearing (pashu palan), and household responsibilities. Through flexible working conditions, they are able to contribute economically without compromising their role as caregivers.

We are a collaborative organization, fostering a positive environment where there is no pressure, only cooperation and growth. Our women artisans are skilled in knitting, crochet, stitching, and handcraft, and their traditional expertise forms the soul of MUMYU’s products.

BYBW Policy: Bring Your Baby to Work

MUMYU’s unique BYBW (Bring Your Baby to Work) policy and flexible working hours reflect our deep understanding of the challenges faced by mothers. By enabling home-based work and continuous skill development, MUMYU ensures that women do not have to choose between motherhood and meaningful work.
